Senior Citizen Discounted Water Rates to Qualified Residents
Riverton City has implemented a discounted culinary and secondary water rate for senior citizens who qualify under Salt Lake County’s Circuit Breaker Tax Relief program. The Tax Relief program is designed to help individuals over 65 years of age with a yearly income of $26,157 or less to receive a possible reduction in their property taxes.
To determine if you qualify for Salt Lake County’s Circuit Breaker Tax Relief program please call Salt Lake County at 468-3991. They will send you the necessary application forms so there is no need to appear in person at the County. The applications must be received at the County no later than September 1st to be considered for the following tax year.
To qualify, you must meet the following criteria:
You physically reside at the address for which the reduced water rate is being requested and receive water service from Riverton City.
The property at which you reside is served exclusively by one meter.
Over the age of 65
Annual income of $26,157 or less
Riverton City Utility Billing Department will verify those Riverton residents who qualify with the County directly so there is no need to reapply at Riverton City. Those who qualify will get the reduction in their water rates automatically as long as you also meet the above criteria.

Water Winterization
Between the months of October through March, you will need to winterize your outside water system. May we suggest the following;
Garden Hoses - To prevent possible flooding and water damage, remove garden hoses from the hose spigot and store them in your garage or shed.
Secondary Ball Valve - Close off the ball valve in the green box for the secondary connection. This will prevent water from entering your system when filled in March. Remove above ground backflow assemblies to a warm basement so they will not freeze.
Water Meter Lid - Be sure your water meter lid is bolted down tight. Please call us if problems are noticed at 208-3112.
Swamp Coolers - should have the water pipe removed, so it can drain, also removing the existing water inside the cooler prevents corrosion and legion Ella. We suggest covering the cooler so the cold air does not enter your home.
New Sprinklers - If you are installing lawn sprinkling systems please remember to have them inspected by the water department. This is free to you.
We Need Your Help - If you have new neighbors from areas where freezing is not experienced, feel free to give good advice.
