The Storm Water Utility was created to satisfy requirements set forth by The Utah Water Quality Act. It is the result of The Federal Clean Water Act of 1972. The law requires cities to protect streams, rivers, and lakes, in their jurisdictions, from polluted storm water. Protecting these water bodies require dedicated personnel and equipment.
The Federal Government and our State Government did not provide funding, so local governments were left on their own to cover the cost. Many cities in Utah and across the nation have implemented their own Storm Water Utility Fee. Riverton City has also found it necessary to implement this fee in order to meet the demands of the Utah Clean Water Act as required by the Federal Clean Water Act.
If you have additional questions regarding this fee, please call 208-3152.

The City of Riverton requested a comparison study be conducted to evaluate the cost of changing the primary source of culinary water for the City. The study is being conducted in an effort to explore the City’s options to increase water quality. This study was limited to the comparison of two alternatives; 1) continue pumping water from wells owned by the City for its primary source and purchasing water from Jordan Valley Water Conservancy District (JVWCD) as a back up water source for secodary and 2) convert the water purchased from JVWCD as the primary source and use well water from City owned wells as back-up culinary water source. This study includes a qualitative comparison of the two alternatives and a quantitative analysis to compare the total cost of operating the culinary water system under each of the two alternatives.
